Day 158

2014/06/07

Very soon I will be in Florida chillin’ with my Tiki peeps.

Day 157

2014/06/06

Bass Pro Shops. There are over 70 Bass Pro Shop stores throughout the United States. The closest one to me is in Auburn. That store should have been built in Syracuse on the Inner Harbor. The City of Syracuse can be shortsighted.

Day 156

2014/06/05

Another Hawaii Five-O shirt. “Book’em Danno!”

Day 155

2014/06/04

Old Navy Flag Tee from 2007. The year 2007 saw the first release of Apple’s IPhone. While Apple shares took a tumble in late 2012 the stock today is in recovery and the company recently announced a 7 for 1 forward stock split for shareholders of record as of June 9th. Cameo for the shirt picture today is my Dude; the T-Man. Picture was taken at Tristan’s school picnic.

Day 154

2014/06/03

Another Hawaiian shirt. Or a surf shirt? Just so there is no confusion I don’t surf. I love to watch people surf. I love surf movies and surf documentaries. People watch football that have never played football and they still enjoy the sport. I have never tried to surf but I suspect that I would be fairly horrible at it. I do enjoy the surf culture. I did try the ‘boogie board’ once. I am including a pic with the results from that attempt; a gnarly bruise courtesy of the angry sea.

Day 153

2014/06/02

I have very eclectic tastes in music. In grade school I remember singing Monkees songs on the bus. When my parents got a HiFi the vinyl album I played all the time was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass “Whipped Cream and Other Delights”. The first album that I bought was Led Zeppelin III. After seeing the film “2001; A Space Odyssey” I bought the classical album “The Gayne Ballet” by Aram Khachaturian after hearing the haunting Adagio used so effectively in the film. I like bluegrass, jazz, surf, Exotica, rockabilly, Celtic, alternative rock, Bossa Nova, blues, punk, soul, techno, and so on and on. “Stairway to Heaven”, the song by Led Zeppelin, has grossed over 560 million dollars and is now the subject of a lawsuit. The estate of the late Randy California from the band Spirit is alleging that the intro for “Stairway to Heaven” was copied from the song “Taurus” performed by Spirit and written by California. Interesting. Anyways, today’s shirt is Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”.

Day 152

2014/06/01

Another Rage Against The Machine shirt. This one has the likeness of Emiliano Zapata on it along with a quote of his: “It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees”. Zapata was a leader in the peasant uprising in Morales, Mexico, and an important figure in the Mexican revolution. Zapata was a founder of the agrarian movement called Zapatismo. I am also including an old picture of me wearing this shirt. The older picture is seven to ten years old and was taken at the Pompey Rod and Gun Club. I am holding my Winchester model 94 .375 Big Bore. I look about the same except for the gray in the beard and the shirt doesn't fit quite as well. I'll say it before someone else does.

Day 141

2014 05/21

Corona beer, surfing, and the graphic from the 1966 documentary “Endless Summer”.

Day 140

2014/05/20

PSA. Public service announcement. The opinions expressed by me in this T-Shirt project are not necessarily those of my wife. In fact, if you happen to see Karen out and about you might not want to mention all the T-Shirts. No sense in getting her started, right?

Day 139

2014/05/19

This shirt was a gift from my daughter. For most of her life she has had to listen to my theories on the best joke ever. The best joke ever, which I determined by scientific principles which I will explain shortly, is simple. “Two peanuts were walking down the street. One of them was assaulted (a salted).” Every joke has the build-up or ‘joke work’. The laugh is the payoff. The ratio of the laugh payoff to the amount of joke work expended determines the strength of the joke. Some jokes may get a bigger laugh but only after a big build-up and so these jokes are inefficient. This shirt was the closest my daughter could get to the best joke ever. Best daughter ever.

Day 137

2014/05/17

The Scots are a nation and ethnic group native to Scotland. Descendants of the Gaels, the Scots historically were speakers of the Gaelic languages; a branch of the Celtic languages comprising Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Manx. Large numbers of Scottish people settled the new worlds of North and South America, Australia, and New Zealand. Canada has the largest number per capita of Scots descendants in the world. The U.S. has the largest number of Scots descendants in absolute numbers.

Day 131

2014/05/11

In the “Hangover” movie Zach Galifianakis played a ‘stay-at-home son’. I have one of those.

Day 130

2014/05/10

Liquid Aloha. Kona Brewing Co. When it’s summer it’s time for a Longboard.

Day 129

2014/05/09

Walley World or Bust! Who doesn’t love an epic road pic? The 1983 film “National Lampoon’s Vacation” is one of the best. The film was directed by the late Harold Ramis and written by the late John Hughes. The success of the film allowed Hughes to go onto such films as “The Breakfast Club”, “Sixteen Candles”, “Pretty in Pink”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, and “Home Alone”.

Day 112

2014/04/22

Earth Day. April 22nd is Earth Day and I have a shirt for that. The first Earth Day was in 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in over 140 different countries.

Day 113

2014/04/23

Winchester. At one time I was an avid collector of lever action rifles; specifically Winchesters and more specifically the model 94. I became knowledgeable enough about lever actions that in some circles I became known as ‘The Rifleman’. I did not seek out this nickname; it was kind of bestowed upon me. ‘The Rifleman’ nickname came from the TV series “The Rifleman”. The series aired from 1958 to 1963 and then in re-runs in syndication. Chuck Connors played rancher Lucas McCain. His gimmick was a modified Winchester model 92 that was fitted with an oversize ring lever and a set screw which allowed the rifle to fire every time the lever was worked. Collecting firearms is a rich man’s hobby. I was never rich but as a single dude with no responsibilities almost all my discretionary income was used to buy firearms. When I got married and had kids there was no more collecting. Now that my kids are grown and the house is paid for I am collecting once again but this time it’s ceramic Tiki mugs. ‘The Rifleman’ is gone; replaced by Khan Tiki Mon. As Khan Tiki Mon I am a legend only in my own mind.

Day 111

2014/04/21

Another Tiki shirt. That’s actually my phone number – 1 - 555 – TIKI - MEE

Day 110

2014/04/20

Office Space - Milton. Another “Office Space” shirt. The film “Office Space” was based on the Mike Judge cartoon series “Milton”.

Day 109

2014/04/19

Billabong Hawaii. A billabong is a pond that is left after a river changes its course. The word comes from Australia. Billabong is also the name of a clothing line.

Day 108

2014/04/18

Godzilla! This shirt is from 1998 and the Roland Emmerich film “Godzilla”. Godzilla, King of the Monsters, first appeared in the 1954 film “Godzilla”. There is a new film version of Godzilla coming out this year.

Day 106

2014/04/16

Office Space. Mike Judge wrote and directed the 1999 film “Office Space”. The film starred Ron Livingston, Jennifer Anniston, and Gary Cole. “Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements.” The movie is hilarious and really nails the experience of being a white collar worker in a cubicle. The film has become a cult classic. Some quotes from the film:

Bob Porter: Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately.

Peter Gibbons: Well, I wouldn't exactly say I've been "missing" it, Bob.

Joanna: So you're gonna quit?

Peter Gibbons: Nuh-uh. Not really. Uh... I'm just gonna stop going.

Joanna: When did you decide all that?

Peter Gibbons: About an hour ago.

Joanna: An hour ago... so you're gonna get another job?

Peter Gibbons: I don't think I'd like another job.

Joanna: Well, what are you going to do about money and bills and...

Peter Gibbons: You know, I've never really liked paying bills. I don't think I'm gonna do that, either.

Day 107

2014/04/17

Old Navy Flag Tee 2004. Only one decade of Old Navy Flag tees left.

Day 104

2014/04/14

This shirt makes no sense logically. There has been a societal convention that ‘happy hour’ starts at 5 and that we shouldn’t consume the adult beverages before that. Radical thinkers have suggested that you can pretty much imbibe anytime you want to because it is 5 o’clock somewhere on this planet even if it isn’t actually 5 right where you are at. This shirt is suggesting that you could start drinking sooner if you don’t wait for 4 instead of not waiting for 5. This may not be on the same level as the paradoxes arising from time travel but it does give one pause to reflect.

Day 105

2014/04/15

Today's shirt is from a 1933 U.S. Forest Service fire poster. “Death rides the forest when man is careless”. The photo for today was taken at ‘Billy Beez’ in the Destiny Mall. Three years ago today, on tax day, the sweet little baby Alice was born. We took her to ‘Billy Beez’ to celebrate (her birthday – not tax day).

Day 102

2014/04/12

X-Files again. Another X-Files shirt. This is not an older vintage shirt but rather a new shirt. The cool design is made with Fox and Dana’s silhouettes.

Day 101

2014/04/11

Goldfingirl. Another Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid! (MeduSirena) shirt. This one is an homage to the third James Bond film that starred Sean Connery. “Goldfinger” was the first James Bond film I ever saw. I saw it from the backseat of my parent’s car at the drive-in theater on Erie Blvd. in Dewitt. It wasn’t a first run movie then and was the second film shown that evening. We popped our own popcorn before we went to the movies. The popcorn was in brown paper grocery bags and as the night wore on the butter would stain the bags with dark brown splotches. We had Kool-Aid mixed with ginger ale in thermos bottles. I loved the James Bond movies.

Day 103

2014/04/13

Dodgeball. Shirt picture for today taken at Funny Bone Comedy Club in Destiny. Cameo by Kevin Staffin who was visiting from Massachusetts. I owe The-Jeff Surface a cameo shot.

My wife says I have too many T-shirts. She says I don't wear them enough. This used to be true. I tended to have a few current favorites that I wore in a tight rotation. No more of that. I am going to wear a different shirt each and every day and see how many days I can go without repeating a shirt. This page is home to the second 100 shirts.

The Daily T-shirt 2

How many T-shirts does Khan Tiki Mon have? A lot? More than a lot?

More than that?

Day 164

2014/06/13

Another shirt in anticipation of Father’s Day this Sunday. Cameo for the shirt pic today is the Sailor Jerry girl. Picture was taken at the Bahia Cabana in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Day 163

2014/06/12

Today is my birthday and Father’s Day approaches. This T-shirt is a little “Dad” humor.

Day 162

2014/06/11

Hawaiian shirt. The coconut tree (cocos nucifera) is found throughout the tropics and subtropical regions. Known as “niu” in Hawaiian the coconut tree was originally introduced to Hawaii by the original Polynesian settlers.

Day 160

2014/06/09

Another Hawaiian shirt. This one with hot lava. Shirt from the 2009 Stingray Classic; bodybuilding, physique, figure, and bikini competition. I liked the shirt design.

Day 150

2014/05/30

I am a huge fan of National Public Radio. I am a long time listener. In the late 80s and early 90s I drove to Oswego and back every day to work at the nuclear power plant. It was a one hour drive one way; two hours in the car every day. NPR probably saved my life and the life of others by keeping me awake and alert for those long commutes.

Day 148

2014/05/28

There are 131 Gander Mountain stores across 25 states. The actual Gander Mountain, the geological formation, is located in Lake County, Illinois.

Day 149

2014/05/29

The 1987 film “Predator” is considered by most to be a classic of American cinema. The film has the distinction of starring 2 future governors and maybe a third. Arnold was governor of California, Jesse Ventura was governor of Minnesota, and Sonny Landham has run for governor of Kentucky.

Day 147

2014/05/27

A Costa Rican butterfly shirt. Cameo by the sweet little Alice who also has a Costa Rican butterfly shirt. Alice is also sporting some spiffy shorts with a butterfly on them. I don’t have butterfly pants and Alice suggested that we go shopping for some. I doubt they have butterfly pants in my size. Maybe someone could bedazzle a butterfly onto my jeans?

Day 136

2014/05/16

Old Navy Flag Tee 2006. Paul McCartney wrote the song “When I’m Sixty-Four” when he was 16 years old. In 2006 he turned 64 years of age. Twitter was born in 2006. If Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was still alive he would have celebrated his 250th birthday in 2006.

Day 135

2014/05/15

Hawaii Five-O. When I was at Ohana: Luau at the Lake last year I was talking to the representative from Kona Brewing. He told me that all the product placement for Kona on the “Hawaii Five-O” show is gratis. The people behind the show want to support local. I like that. I like it on the show when they solve a case and they say “It’s Longboard time”.

Day 134

2014/05/14

Pinupalooza was an event held on September 7th, 2013 in Orlando, Florida. The event was a celebration of pin-up art, photography, and culture. I didn’t attend, I wasn’t in Florida in September, but I did get this T-Shirt while at the Hukilau.

Day 127

2014/05/07

I don’t know if the Rusty Lounge Blues Pub and Club is a real place or not. I just liked the design on this shirt. I would totally go there.

Day 128

2014/05/08

Get freaky at the Tiki. Another Tiki shirt. I am looking forward to upcoming events: Hukilau in Fort Lauderdale, Ohana: Luau at the Lake in Lake George, Hot Rod Hula Hop in Columbus, and the Northeast Tiki Tour. My dance card is filling up quite nicely.

Day 121

2014/05/01

Old Navy Cinco de Mayo. It is the first of May. Mayday. There is a lot going on the first part of May. There is Cinco de Mayo, The Kentucky Derby, and Star Wars Day. I don’t have any Kentucky Derby shirts but Cinco de Mayo and Star Wars I have covered.

Day 120

2014/04/30

Alien Crossing. What a ratty shirt this is. It is stained and has holes in it. I have worn this shirt for many construction projects around the house. I have painted in this shirt. I have poured concrete. I have hung drywall wearing this shirt. This shirt is twenty years old if it’s a day. Last day of April and four months of T-shirts behind me.

Day 119

2014/04/29

KC Royals Hot Dog Derby. The famous Kentucky Derby, the first jewel in the coveted Triple Crown, is run on the first Saturday of May each year. Going to the Kentucky Derby is on my ‘bucket list’. The KC Royals Hot Dog Derby is not on my ‘bucket list'. If I am ever in the neighborhood I would gladly check out the hot dog derby but I won’t be making any special trips or arrangements to catch the running of the hot dogs.

Day 114

2014/04/24

Old Navy Flag Tee 2005. Here’s an interesting fact. YouTube was born in 2005. The first video was uploaded on April 23rd in 2005.

Day 191

2014/07/10

Ironman is a fictional superhero in the Marvel universe. Ironman’s real name is Tony Stark. Stark is a billionaire industrialist and inventor. The character of Ironman first appeared in comics in 1963. Recently Ironman has been brought to life in the cinema with Robert Downey Jr. playing the character. For today’s photo I have a cameo by my buddy Tristan who also happens to be sporting an Ironman shirt.

Day 190

2014/07/09

Gambit is another character in the Marvel universe and a sometime member of the X Men. Gambit, real name Remy Etienne LeBeau, is from Louisiana and speaks with a heavy Cajun accent. His mutant power is the ability to create and control pure kinetic energy. Once a professional thief Gambit seeks redemption with the X Men. The character of Gambit first appeared in 1990.

Day 189

2014/07/08

Storm is a fictional character in the Marvel universe, Her mutant power is the ability to control the weather. Storm, her real name is Ororo Munroe, is often the leader of the X Men. Her character first appeared in 1975. In the movies she has been portrayed by Halle Berry.

Day 188

2014/07/07

Wolverine, commonly known as Logan, is a character in the Marvel universe. Wolverine possesses keen animal senses and a super human ability to heal. The ability to heal allowed him to survive having the near indestructible metal Adamantium fused to his skeleton. His ability to heal also has slowed his aging and even he is unsure of exactly how old he is. Wolverine is a fan favorite and one of my favorite Marvel characters.

Day 186

2014/07/05

X Men. The X Men are fictional characters in the Marvel Comics universe. They are mutants with super powers. The mutants face bigotry from the population as a whole but fight to protect society from evildoers. The X Men have been around since 1963.

Day 187

2014/07/06

Cyclops. One of the original X Men, the fictional character Cyclops, first appeared in Marvel comics in 1963. His real name is Scott Summers. Cyclops emits a powerful energy beam from his eyes. He cannot control the optic blasts naturally and so wears a special visor.

Day 169

2014/06/18

Day 167

2014/06/16

I have a few ‘Dad’ shirts left to get through before I leave the Father’s Day theme.

Day 161

2014/06/10

Hawaiian shirt. Seafood bar in beautiful downtown Kawaihae, Hawaii.

Day 159

2014/06/08

A Tiki Magazine shirt. I have the pic for today and then I am cheating for a cameo pic as I am using a picture taken at the 2010 Hukilau. I bought this Tiki Magazine T-Shirt at the bazaar. The shirt has a design by Tom Thordarson on it depicting Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid swimming at the Wreck Bar. I wore the shirt to the premiere of Tikimentary and was lucky enough to catch up with Marina wearing the same shirt! I posted the picture on Facebook with the comment "The shirts are identical but somehow it looks better on Marina..." Marina, being the sweetheart she is, responded, "You look quite dapper in your Tee, Scott! I'm happy to be swimmin' on y'er chest!". Will be at the Hukilau 2014 very soon.

Day 144

2014/05/24

Another Hawaiian shirt. Waikiki Beach.

Day 143

2014/05/23

The shirt for today was a 1998 Bristol clambake shirt. The pictures were taken at Tully’s where I had lunch with Karen and some of her coworkers, both current and former. Cameo by The-Jeff Surface

Day 142

2014/05/22

H.P. Lovecraft created the character Cthulhu, a cosmic entity, in 1928. Cthulhu first appeared in the magazine “Weird Tales”. Cthulhu is malevolent and is worshipped by some as one of the Ancient Ones, or Elder Gods. There is a shared Cthulhu Mythos and the fictional town of Arkham, home of the Arkham Sanatorium, shows up in Batman. So, I guess there is no reason that Cthulhu couldn’t enjoy a nice luau.

My nephew Andrew wrote these cautionary words: "Cthuluaus are fun while they last, but then the next thing you know you wake up in a mental hospital in a straight-jacket, writing esoteries and non-Euclidean pictograms on the wall with a piece of chalk in your teeth."

Day 138

2014/05/18

Just another Tiki bar shirt.

Day 133

2014/05/13

Landshark by the Margaritaville Brewing Co. was a beer started in 2006 as the house beer for Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville restaurant chain. There are many Tikiphiles that hate Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffett’s music is not Tiki. Tiki music should be from the Exotica genre; Les Baxter, Martin Denny, and Arthur Lyman from the old school. New bands like The Tikiyaki Orchestra, The Stolen Idols, Waitiki, and Ixtahuele carry on the musical style. The Tiki scene has allowed surf and rockabilly to participate but Jimmy Buffett remains a persona non grata. Don’t mention Jimmy Buffett at a serious gathering of Tikiphiles. While I agree that Jimmy Buffett is not Tiki I also admit that I listen to his music from time to time as I listen to a wide range of musical styles not just Exotica. As for the beer itself, this Landshark is a Corona wannabe. But I’ll tell you that in the Summer when it’s really hot if the Landshark is ice cold it goes down pretty easy. I would prefer a Kona Longboard with dinner but for sitting in the sun an ice cold Landshark is okay by me.

Day 132

2014/05/12

I ate at Rudy’s Bar-B-Q while in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Day 125

2014/05/05

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States than in Mexico.

Day 124

2014/05/04

May the 4th be with you. Star Wars Day and all that. A new poster for episode VII has just been released.

Day 122

2014/05/02

Star Wars. Another Star Wars shirt. Is it true, can it be, does Mickey Mouse own the Deathstar?!

Day 116

2014/04/26

Penn. I already posted my Teller shirt and I wrote this when I did: True story. Fourteen years ago we went to the Landmark Theater in Syracuse to see Penn and Teller. It was an awesome show. During intermission Penn Jillette was in a barrel. He had been stuffed into a barrel that was then pierced with swords. If you bought a T-shirt you could go up on stage and gaze into the barrel to confirm that Penn was indeed stuffed into the barrel amidst the swords. I would have bought a shirt anyway. I waited in line and it was Teller who was selling the shirts. I said I would take two, one of each. Teller said, “They’re selling like hotcakes”. I must have been a little star struck because then I asked how much they were. That was lame because I knew how much they were, I just didn’t know what else to say. Teller said, “I already got it”. He had picked my pocket and I was totally unawares. How awesome is it that Teller picked my pocket?! Here is the other half of the magical duo – my Penn shirt.

Day 115

2014/04/25

Newport. Today’s T-Shirt picture was shot at The Spinning Wheel restaurant at our bowling banquet. In the picture with me is Kathie Goodmore. The T-Shirt is from Newport, Rhode Island. My wife went there on a GWA (Girls Weekend Away) and all I got was this T-Shirt.

Day 200

2014/07/19

Today is a milestone in my T-shirt project as I post the 200th shirt. The picture for this milestone was taken at the Bristol Myers family picnic. Multiple cameos for this auspicious day include Theresa, Danielle, Alice, Tristan, Kate, and Jake. The T-shirt for today is one that I got by being part of a fundraiser. I’m sure most of you know the story of Jenna Hinman and her twin girls.

Day 195

2014/07/14

The Hulk is a character created by Stan Lee for Marvel comics. The Hulk is the alter ego of the physicist Bruce Banner. Banner was mutated by radiation in an experiment gone wrong and when he is under extreme emotional duress he becomes the Hulk. Hulk first appeared in comics in 1962. The character was portrayed in a TV series by Bill Bixby/ Lou Ferrigno as Bruce Banner/ Hulk respectively.

Day 194

2014/07/13

Penguin Palooza at the Burnet Park Zoo today. Ice cream samples, hot dogs, and penguins. The cameo for today is a penguin friend of mine. Shirt is a Marvel comics cover.

Day 192

2014/07/11

Peter Parker is a fictional comic book superhero. He is better known as Spider-man. Spider-man first appeared in comics in 1962 and was created by Stan Lee. Spider-man is one of the most popular and enduring of the Marvel superheroes.

Day 193

2014/07/12

Peter Parker, AKA Spider-man, gained his superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. His superpowers include his ‘spidey sense’ which allows him to react very quickly to danger.

Day 181

2014/06/30

Milestone today! Six full months of T-Shirts. How much longer can this go on?! The shirt for today is a vintage matchbook design.

Day 180

2014/06/29

No Fear. The Older I Get The Better I Was. Pretty soon I will have been so very very amazing!

Day 179

2014/06/28

“Return of the Son of the Thing From Lake George” was the theme for last year’s kick-off party for Ohana: Luau at the Lake 2013. I didn’t get a shirt then and it made me sad. This year Chip Kerr gave me this awesome shirt. Mahalo! I think he had mixed emotions giving me the shirt, something about enabling my problem was said. I hope he doesn’t feel too guilty.

Day 176

2014/06/25

Ohana: Luau at the Lake. This is my last Ohana: Luau at the Lake shirt. That’s unless I get another one when I arrive at Ohana: Luau at the Lake for 2014 tomorrow!!!

Day 175

2014/06/24
Ohana: Luau at the Lake. Fun with a purpose. Proceeds from the weekend go to the Easter Island Foundation.

Day 173

2014/06/22

Lake George, NY is home to the Tiki Motor Inn. The Tiki Motor Inn is where Ohana: Luau at the Lake happens. Woo hoo!!

Day 174

2014/06/23

Ohana: Luau at the Lake. This will be my fourth year attending the festivities in Lake George. What an absolutely wonderful time.

Day 172

2014/06/21

The Peace sign originated in the 1950s. It was the logo for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. The symbol was adopted by anti-war and counterculture activists in the United States.

Day 168

2014/06/17

Another ‘Dad’ shirt. My kids got me a couple of T-Shirts for Father’s Day over the years. No ties.

Day 165

2014/06/14

The T-Shirt for today is the Aquarama shirt from Vintage Roadside. The picture for today was taken at the Hukilau in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the symposium “Cocktails and Fishtails” a history of the porthole bar. Presenters were Jeff from Vintage Roadside and Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid. An awesome and informative presentation it was. The subject of my shirt, the Aquarama, was the subject of another Hukilau symposium by Vintage Roadside a few years back. The observant follower of my T-Shirt excess here will remember that I have already done the Tiki Gardens shirt that Jeff is wearing.

Day 166

2014/06/15

Today is Father’s Day and the picture for today was shot on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. The shirt says ‘World’s Best Dad’ and I certainly don’t feel worthy or deserving of that title. I have done my best I guess but have definitely felt overwhelmed and inadequate. The title rightfully belongs to my Dad. Anything I did right raising my kids is a reflection of him. My Dad is the best.

Day 151

2014/05/31

Another Hawaiian shirt for the last day of May. Five months of shirts are now behind me. How many more months to go?

Day 146

2014/05/26

Hawaiian Airlines is the largest airline in Hawaii. It is the eighth largest carrier in the United States and operates out of Honolulu. The airline began business as Inter-Island Airways in 1929 and changed the name to Hawaiian Airlines in 1941.

Day 145

I got this shirt at my second Hukilau in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2010. The shirt was designed by Shag. My wife, Karen, tells me that I should be careful when I talk to strangers because she says I am scary looking. She says that’s because of my beard. It takes a while for people to realize that I am really just a very warm and fuzzy kind of guy. Karen says, in her own words, that I “look like a terrorist”. After the 2010 Hukilau was over it was Sunday morning and Karen and I were going through the security checks before boarding the plane. One of the TSA agents approached me. She said, “There is something fishy about you and I can put my finger on it” and she poked me in the chest. I thought, holy crap, I really do look like a terrorist. I quickly realized however that she was just joking with me. I was wearing this Shag designed Hukilau T-shirt with the fish design on it.

Day 126

2014/05/06

Lady Luck. Lady Luck has been on my side from time to time.

"Luck be a lady tonight

Luck be a lady tonight

Luck if you've been a lady to begin with

Luck be a lady tonight

Luck let a gentleman see

Just how nice a dame you can be

I know the way you've treated other guys you've been with

Luck be a lady with me

A lady never leaves her escort

It isn't fair, it isn't nice

A lady doesn't wander all over the room

And blow on some other guys dice

Lets keep this party polite

Never get out of my sight

Stick with me baby,

I'm the guy that you came in with

Luck be a lady tonight"

From "Guys and Dolls".

Day 123

2014/05/03

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday but it is not Mexican Independence Day. The French sent a massive army to Mexico to collect on war debts. The Mexicans resisted the invasion and on May 5th 1862 they defeated the larger and better equipped French army at Puebla. The battle was won but the war was subsequently lost. Still the victory against all odds has been celebrated ever since.

Day 118

2014/04/28

Pirate Bay Bahamas. I like deep see diving helmets and the like. I just liked the design on this shirt.

Day 117

2014/04/27

Middle Ages Brewing is the only full production brewery in Syracuse, NY. I got this shirt about 18 years ago when they first opened. The Grail Ale was one of their first beers and they still brew it today. My favorite Middle Ages brew, and in the top five of all beers, is the Wailing Wench.

Day 198

2014/07/17

Around 2010 in the Marvel comic book universe Spider-man joined the Avengers. Today’s shirt features Spider-man with Ironman, Thor, and Captain America.

Day 199

2014/07/18

The Watchmen was a limited comic series published by DC Comics in 1986. The comics were later collected and published together as a graphic novel.

Day 197

2014/07/16

Another Spider-man shirt for today. The character of Spider-man is one of Marvel’s most popular creations. There have been animated TV series, live action movies, and even a Broadway musical.

Day 196

2014/07/15

The character of Black Widow was created by Stan Lee in 1964. She was originally a Russian spy but later defected and joined SHIELD and the Avengers. She is also known as Natalia Romanova or Natasha Romanoff, neither of those are likely to be her true identity. She has been portrayed in the movies recently by Scarlet Johansson.

Day 185

2014/07/04

Today is the 4th of July and so the shirt for today should be something patriotic, am I right? And you can’t get much more patriotic than Captain America! As a heads up, just to let you know, we are coming into a whole bunch of geeky shirts in the next week or so.

Day 184

2014/07/03

The Concussions. Friday night at Ohana: Luau at the Lake we hosted a room for the room crawl. I made Cape Fear punch. The punch has a base of rye whiskey, dark Jamaican rum, and French brandy. I brewed a green tea and added Demerara sugar. The liquor and the tea went into storage containers with lemon peels for a couple of days. Just the peels none of the pith. The liquor macerates the peels extracting the oils. Friday night to complete the punch I would juice four lemons into the punch bowl, add the base, two bottles of Champagne, and half a liter of club soda. The punch seemed to go over well and we served close to 175 people (ten bottles of Champagne). After our ninety minutes was up it was time to shut down so that everyone could go out to the pool to see Ninth Wave perform. We had cocktails left over so we made up trays and went out to hand them out. I was carrying a tray and someone called to me, “Hey, I’ll take those”. I said,
“Sure, here you go”. He said, “I was just kidding”. I said, “I’m not, these are for you”. Turns out that the nice gentlemen I was serving were the band The Concussions slated to perform the next day. I told them I had bought one of their CDs long before I knew they would be performing at Ohana because I had heard them on Radio Free Bakersfield. The Concussions are friends of Whorehay Spahn same as me. It’s a small world after all.

Day 183

2014/07/02

I was lucky enough to hear 45 Spider perform last August at Hot Rod Hula Hop 5 in Columbus, Ohio. I first met Kevin Moore and his wife at Hukilau 2010 and then again at Festiki in 2010. We got to catch up at Ohana: Luau at the Lake this year. I got this shirt and a 45 Spider CD at HRHH5.

Day 182

2014/07/01

Another matchbook Tee today. It is the first day of July and summer is really cookin’.

Day 178

2014/06/27

It is the morning after the kick-off party for Ohana: Luau at the Lake. Yes, I did get a new Ohana shirt and here it is.

Day 177

2014/06/26

We made it to Lake George. Here I am outside the Paradise Lounge at the fabulous Tiki Motor Inn; home of Ohana: Luau at the Lake. I am wearing a Disney Enchanted Tiki Room shirt. This is one of two Enchanted Tiki Room shirts I have. I will be featuring the other in a little while. I love the colors on this shirt!

Day 171

2014/06/20

The American Heart Association is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1924. I got this T-Shirt at a fund raiser. I survived a heart attack and I am indeed a lucky man.

Day 170

2014/06/19

Spamalot. A few years back Karen and I went to see Spamalot in NYC. We went with some good friends of ours. We drove to Hoboken, NJ. and took the train in from there. We had lunch at the Hard Rock, saw the matinee, and then dinner at Carmen’s. We were back at home that same day. It was a great trip. We should do that more often than once a decade.
